A large body of literature in political science, sociology, and development economics asserts that specialization in the export of unprocessed goods hinders a nation's economic development. In order to study the implications of export instability for economic development this general equilibrium model is enlarged by some relations which help to trace the transmission of export instability to the macro-economy. 2.
